WordPress Menus

  1. Menus help communicate your message to viewers.
  2. Open Appearance/Menus to create Menus.
  3. Create a menu titled, Main Navigation, and click the ‘Create’ or ‘Save’ Menu button.
  4. Because you already created pages and posts described in a previous section above, you can select the page/post titles for your menu.
    1. If you do not see posts or categories listed, click on ‘Screen options’ at the top right of the Menu page.
  5. In your Menus page, the left column labeled ‘Pages’ shows the label options to include in your menu: Pages, Posts, Links, Categories, and Tags. Add your home page and blog to the menu if available in the list. Click Save Menu.
  6. To open the linked page in a new window of the viewer’s browser instead of in the same window, click on Screen Options at the top right of the page, and select the ‘Link Target’ option. The option to open a page in another window is now available for selection.
  7. In the left column of your Menu page, select ‘Links’ to create a custom link to a file or page not listed as a Page or Post.
  8. Save Menu changes.
  9. Under ‘Menu Setting’, select where the menu should be located on the page.
  10. Footer navigation links can also be created in Menus. See more instruction for Footers.
