Replacing Moen 1225 Shower Stem

Moen Shower faucet

1. Remove handle and cover.
2. Pull off stop tube.
3. Remove spacer washer on stem. This stabilizes handle.
4. Pull out retainer clip.
5. Use Moen insert plug from new cartridge to twist and loosen old cartridge.
6. Pull out stem and cartridge.
   1. This is the hard part.
   2. I used a socket, washers, a nut and the stem screw to force the cartridge out.
7. Insert new cartridge with tabs up and down.
8. Press cartridge in with the insert plug.
9. Insert retainer clip.
10. Place spacer washer over stem.
11. Place stop tube.
12. Place cover and handle.
